Govt Reduces Electricity

A government primary school in Chak 131 Lonewala, Chiniot district, has come under serious public criticism after reports emerged that classroom fans were deliberately switched off to reduce electricity expenses — forcing young students to sit and study in unbearable heat during one of the hottest periods of the year.

The issue came to light after a video from the school went viral on social media, showing children packed into overcrowded classrooms with little to no ventilation while outside temperatures soared. The footage sparked widespread anger and concern among parents, local residents and the general public.

Students and locals told reporters that the absence of proper cooling has made it nearly impossible for children to concentrate on their studies, with many feeling exhausted and physically uncomfortable during school hours. Parents were particularly distressed, saying that classrooms become absolutely unbearable during the peak afternoon heat — raising serious questions about the health and well-being of young children who have no choice but to attend.

The incident triggered a wave of criticism online, with many people questioning how students are expected to learn and perform in such harsh and neglected conditions — and who is responsible for allowing this to happen.

Education authorities have since responded to the reports, confirming that the school is being operated under an outsourcing arrangement. Officials said the matter is being taken seriously and that action is now being considered against the operator responsible for managing the facility.

A formal letter has also been sent to the Punjab Education Foundation requesting a thorough inquiry into the situation and recommending appropriate disciplinary action if negligence is confirmed.
