A large-scale crackdown against electricity theft is continuing across Punjab, where authorities have arrested thousands of individuals accused of illegal power connections and electricity meter tampering.

According to official data, Punjab Police arrested 17,954 suspects this year in connection with electricity theft cases across the province. Authorities also confirmed that 24,356 FIRs and cases have been registered during the ongoing anti-power theft campaign.

Punjab Intensifies Action Against Electricity Theft

Officials stated that investigations and legal proceedings are progressing rapidly as authorities continue efforts to reduce electricity losses and improve power system efficiency in Pakistan.

Police departments and electricity distribution companies are jointly conducting inspection drives, surveillance operations, and raids to identify illegal electricity connections and unauthorized power usage.

So far, challans have been completed in 15,698 cases, while courts have punished or fined 2,448 accused individuals involved in electricity theft activities.

Lahore Reports Thousands of Electricity Theft Cases

In Lahore, authorities reported major progress in the crackdown campaign. Officials confirmed that 5,757 electricity theft cases were registered in the city, resulting in 6,484 arrests during ongoing operations.

Law enforcement agencies say the campaign is being carried out without interruption to strengthen action against organized electricity theft networks and illegal power consumers.

IGP Punjab Orders Strict Enforcement

Abdul Karim has directed all field units to intensify operations against electricity theft and prioritize enforcement across urban and rural areas.

Senior officials emphasized that electricity theft causes billions of rupees in financial losses to the national economy and increases the burden on law-abiding consumers who regularly pay utility bills.

Authorities believe strict action against power theft can help improve electricity recovery rates, reduce line losses, and support stability in Pakistan’s energy sector.

Government Continues Anti-Power Theft Campaign

Police teams across Punjab have been instructed to coordinate closely with power distribution companies to identify illegal connections, bypassed meters, and unauthorized electricity usage.

Officials said the anti-electricity theft operation will continue until stronger control is achieved over power theft activities across the province.

Authorities also warned that no leniency will be shown toward individuals or groups involved in damaging the electricity system or causing financial losses to the state through illegal power consumption.
