Traffic on the Karakoram Highway has been suspended at several points after heavy and continuous rainfall triggered landslides and flash flooding in Shangla and nearby northern areas.
According to initial reports, the heavy rain destabilized mountain slopes, causing rocks, mud and debris to slide down onto the road. These blockages have cut off vehicular movement on key sections of the highway, particularly routes used by travelers heading toward Gilgit-Baltistan and other upper northern destinations.
Authorities have advised commuters and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel until the weather improves and road clearing work is completed. Poor visibility and ongoing rainfall are making the situation even more difficult, further slowing down efforts to clear the blocked sections.
Rescue teams and highway maintenance crews are currently working to remove debris and reopen the affected portions of the road. Efforts are continuing under tough weather conditions to restore safe traffic flow and ensure the safety of all passengers using the route.
