A second Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo has successfully reached Karachi, bringing much-needed relief to Pakistan’s struggling energy sector. The vessel crossed the Strait of Hormuz after a brief delay and arrived safely at Port Qasim.
This marks the second successful LNG delivery from Qatar in recent days. According to reports, a total of three LNG shipments have arrived in Karachi recently — from Qatar, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. These arrivals are critically important as Pakistan battles gas shortages during the peak summer season when demand for both gas and electricity is at its highest.
The LNG shipments will be used to run power plants and meet the growing energy needs of the country. Energy experts say these imports are playing a vital role in preventing major power outages and ensuring a stable electricity supply for both industries and ordinary households across Pakistan.
The safe passage of these vessels through the Strait of Hormuz reflects successful diplomatic efforts by Pakistan, Qatar and other friendly nations. Despite ongoing regional tensions, these shipments are being allowed through on a case-by-case basis — a sign of the strong relationships Pakistan has maintained with key energy partners.
The government is actively working to secure additional LNG cargoes in the coming weeks. This latest arrival is expected to ease pressure on the national power grid and provide much-needed support to the economy during the challenging summer months ahead.
