Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir have joined U.S. Vice President JD Vance in Switzerland as high-level negotiations between the United States and Iran formally begin. Pakistan is participating in the talks as one of the key mediators, alongside Qatar, in an effort to support the ongoing peace process and strengthen the recently agreed framework between Washington and Tehran.
The discussions are expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear program, regional security issues, sanctions relief, and the implementation of the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the two countries. The negotiations come amid continued tensions in the Middle East, including concerns over Lebanon and the Strait of Hormuz.
Pakistan’s leadership has been actively involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran. The participation of PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Asim Munir highlights Islamabad’s growing role in regional diplomacy and peace initiatives.
