Punjab May Start Summer Vacations Early From May 22 Until August 2

Punjab’s Education Minister has announced that the provincial government is considering starting summer vacations in schools from May 22 to August 2, in response to the ongoing intense heatwave affecting the region.

Officials said that authorities are currently reviewing different proposals while keeping a close eye on rising temperatures and changing weather conditions. The main priority is to protect students, teachers, and school staff from the extreme heat while making sure that academic activities can continue in a safe and organized way.

Education department officials confirmed that consultations are underway with relevant departments before any final decision is made. Weather reports and heatwave forecasts are also being carefully reviewed to understand the possible impact on students and educational institutions across the province.

The proposal for an early summer break comes as several cities in Punjab are experiencing unusually high temperatures. Health experts have warned that long exposure to extreme heat can pose serious health risks, particularly for young children who travel to and attend school during the hottest hours of the day.

Parents and teachers have also raised concerns about the harsh weather and the difficulties students face during daily travel and classroom activities. Many people are in favour of early vacations as a practical step to reduce health risks during the heatwave period.

Officials made it clear that no final notification has been issued yet. The government will make its official announcement only after completing all consultations and reviewing the latest weather updates.

In the meantime, authorities have advised schools and parents to take precautionary measures during the heatwave, including keeping students well hydrated, avoiding unnecessary outdoor exposure, and following all available health guidelines.

The possible change in the academic calendar reflects the government’s commitment to putting student safety first and responding responsibly to the growing impact of extreme weather conditions across Punjab.
