Govt Reduces Electricity

The federal government has announced a reduction of Rs. 0.2 per unit in electricity prices, offering some relief to consumers who have been struggling with high utility bills and rising inflation for months.

The decision is expected to benefit millions of domestic and commercial electricity users across the country, with the revised rates set to be reflected in upcoming electricity bills.

Officials confirmed that the reduction was made under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism, following changes in power generation costs. The adjustment is a routine process through which electricity prices are revised each month based on the actual cost of fuel used to generate power.

While consumers have welcomed the announcement, many feel that the cut is too small to make a meaningful difference. A large number of households and businesses say a much bigger reduction is needed to genuinely ease the financial pressure they are facing amid the ongoing rise in living expenses across Pakistan.

For now, the Rs. 0.2 per unit cut offers at least a symbolic step in the right direction — but for millions of Pakistanis already stretched thin by inflation and high utility costs, it remains a drop in the ocean compared to the relief they were hoping for.
