The International Cricket Council has issued demerit points to Gaddafi Stadium and Lord’s Cricket Ground after match officials rated their pitches as “unsatisfactory.”
According to ICC regulations, venues can receive demerit points when pitch conditions fall below the required standards for international cricket. The assessment is based on factors such as consistency of bounce, pace, and overall playing quality throughout a match.
The decision has drawn attention because both venues are among the most recognized cricket grounds in the world. Accumulation of multiple demerit points within a specific period can lead to further sanctions, including the suspension of a venue from hosting international matches.
