The Azad Kashmir government has formally declared the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee a banned organization, invoking strict counter-terrorism laws to shut down its activities with immediate effect.
The Home Department of the Azad Kashmir government issued an official notification implementing the ban, adding the organization — which also frequently operates under the name Awami Action Committee — to the First Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act 2014.
According to the notification, the President of Azad Kashmir approved the ban after reviewing evidence demonstrating that the group’s actions were actively undermining the peace and security of the region.
Serious Accusations Against the Organization
The state government has leveled serious charges against the group, accusing it of orchestrating chaos, spreading fear among the public and creating a deep sense of insecurity across society. The official notification also accuses the committee of deliberately promoting hatred and disturbing public peace.
To prevent the organization from bypassing the ban by operating under different names, the Azad Kashmir Home Department explicitly listed all known alternative names and aliases of the committee within the notification. Authorities confirmed that comprehensive legal action will be taken against the banned entity under the full scope of the law.
Separate Legislative Development
In a separate move, the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly also passed a resolution regarding the 12 assembly seats reserved for refugees currently residing in Pakistan.
Following both developments, the state administration reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, upholding the rule of law and ensuring public safety across the territory — making it clear that no organization will be permitted to threaten state order or endanger the security of its citizens.
