Pakistan is expected to save approximately $3.2 billion by converting the Jamshoro Power Plant from imported coal to locally mined Thar coal, in a major step toward reducing the country’s energy import bill.
The transition is aimed at enhancing energy security, reducing dependence on imported fuel, and utilizing Pakistan’s vast indigenous coal reserves in Thar. Officials believe the move will significantly lower electricity generation costs while helping conserve valuable foreign exchange reserves.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s energy sector, improve sustainability, and promote the use of domestic resources to support long-term economic growth.
