Pakistan is expected to generate approximately Rs. 8.7 billion in economic activity through the collection and processing of sacrificial animal hides during Eid-ul-Azha this year. Industry estimates indicate that nearly 7.5 million animals will be sacrificed nationwide, providing a substantial supply of raw materials for the country’s leather and footwear industries.

The annual tradition continues to play an important role in supporting Pakistan’s economy, with the number of sacrificial animals increasing significantly over the past decade. The resulting hide collection serves as a critical resource for the leather sector, one of the country’s key export-oriented industries.

In recent years, Pakistan’s leather industry has increasingly shifted toward the production of value-added products such as footwear, garments, gloves, accessories, and finished leather goods, enhancing its competitiveness in global markets. According to industry figures, exports of leather products and footwear have reached approximately $694.2 million, contributing significantly to national export earnings.

Experts believe that efficient collection, preservation, and processing of hides during Eid-ul-Azha can further strengthen the industry, create employment opportunities, and support long-term economic growth. Stakeholders remain optimistic that this year’s hide collection will provide another major boost to Pakistan’s leather value chain and export sector.
