The Punjab Food Authority carried out a major crackdown against unsafe and substandard food in Lahore, seizing and destroying massive quantities of dangerous food items found at various locations across the city.
During the operation, PFA teams discarded 18,000 kilograms of animal fat and offal, 600 litres of prepared oil and 3,000 kilograms of dead chickens. The raids were conducted in several areas including Sundar Estate, Shahdara, Tollinton Market and Mondiali Stop.
What Did Inspectors Find?
The operation, ordered by PFA Director General Syed Musa Raza, uncovered a series of serious violations at multiple food outlets and storage facilities. Inspectors found that oil produced from animal fat lacked the required Methanol Dye and proper documentation. Workers had no medical certificates, hygiene standards were completely ignored, and food was being stored in highly unsafe conditions.
In one particularly alarming discovery, milk and meat were found being stored together in old, rusted freezers — a practice that poses serious health risks to consumers.
Action Taken
As a result of the crackdown, one case was officially registered and three individuals were arrested. A water plant and a food production unit were sealed on the spot. A total of 19 food outlets were fined Rs 352,000 for violating food safety regulations.
Zero Tolerance Policy
PFA Director General Syed Musa Raza made it clear that no one who endangers public health by selling adulterated or substandard food will be spared. He reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to strict and continuous monitoring across Punjab to ensure that citizens have access to safe, quality food at all times.
The operation sends a strong message to the food fraud mafia — the PFA is watching, and the crackdowns will continue.
