Sindh Police has issued a public warning urging citizens to be careful when vendors on the road offer free SIM cards in exchange for their thumb impressions or fingerprints.
In an official advisory, Sindh Police advised the public not to share their SIM cards, fingerprints, or any personal information with unknown individuals. The police warned that misuse of such information can lead to serious financial fraud and legal problems for the victims.
Citizens were urged to stay alert and keep their personal data safe to avoid falling victim to cybercrime or identity theft.
“Always stay cautious and stay safe,” the advisory stated.
Police also warned that SIM cards obtained through such deceptive methods are frequently used in serious criminal activities.
PTA Also Issues Warning Over Expired CNICs
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has separately warned mobile phone users to keep their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) valid and up to date, as SIM cards registered against expired, cancelled, or deceased CNICs are being blocked as part of efforts to strengthen digital security across the country.
The PTA urged all citizens to renew their CNICs through NADRA as soon as possible to avoid any disruption to their mobile services. The authority stressed the importance of keeping identity records verified and updated to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.
