Special Funds Approved by Govt to Celebrate 10 May Air Combat Win Over India

The Pakistani government has approved special funds to mark the first anniversary of the country’s historic air combat victory against India on 10 May a day now officially observed as Youm-e-Marka-e-Haq (Day of the Battle of Truth).

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), chaired by Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, approved Rs. 59.624 million specifically for Independence Day and Marka-e-Haq 2025 celebrations. The funds were proposed by the National Heritage and Culture Division as part of broader government spending decisions for the upcoming commemorations.

The ECC session also gave the green light to Technical Supplementary Grants worth approximately Rs. 3.01 billion covering multiple development and administrative projects across the country.

Background: Why 10 May Matters

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier announced that 10 May will be celebrated as a national day every year, honouring the Pakistan Air Force’s performance during the brief but intense military confrontation with India in May 2025.

The conflict erupted after India launched “Operation Sindoor,” striking targets inside Pakistan in retaliation for a deadly terror attack in Indian-administered Kashmir. Pakistan responded with what it described as Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, during which PAF pilots — flying Chinese-built J-10C jets — reportedly shot down multiple Indian Air Force aircraft.

Pakistan declared the outcome a clear military and strategic victory, with the National Assembly passing a unanimous resolution commending the armed forces for their courage and professionalism.

Other Key Approvals from the ECC Meeting

Alongside the celebration funds, the committee approved several other significant allocations:

  • Rs. 2.5 billion for the Directorate General Immigration & Passports to cover salaries, production costs, and outstanding liabilities for FY 2025–26
  • Rs. 100 million for the construction of the Faiz Ahmad Faiz Complex in Narowal, aimed at strengthening cultural and educational infrastructure
  • Rs. 350 million for Danish School Kuri, Islamabad, to sustain academic operations following the commencement of classes
  • Approval for the revival of National Steel Complex Limited through restored gas supply for industrial and captive power use

The ECC stressed the importance of timely implementation of all approved measures and strict fiscal discipline going forward.
