Several police personnel in Lahore have been booked under anti-beggary laws after allegations emerged that they were demanding “Eidi” from members of the public during Eid celebrations, officials confirmed.

According to a police spokesperson, complaints were received against officers posted in the Shahdara and Islampura areas, where citizens reportedly accused them of asking for money in the name of Eid festivities.

Inquiry Ordered by DIG Operations

Following the complaints, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran ordered a formal inquiry into the matter to verify the allegations.

Officials conducted an investigation to determine whether the accused officers were involved in any form of misconduct or misuse of authority.

Allegations Confirmed, FIRs Registered

According to authorities, the inquiry confirmed the allegations, after which legal action was taken against the personnel involved.

FIRs were registered at Shahdara and Islampura police stations under relevant legal sections, including provisions of anti-beggary laws.

Officials stated that disciplinary proceedings will continue against any officer found guilty of misconduct.
