Petrol Above Rs. 430 Next? Government Gives Strong Hints of Further Increase

The federal government has hinted at another petrol price increase in the coming days, adding to the financial worries of millions of Pakistanis who are already struggling with the rising cost of living.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif indicated that further price adjustments may be unavoidable due to continued pressure from the International Monetary Fund and unstable global oil prices. Petrol is currently being sold at over Rs. 414 per litre across Pakistan, and according to sources, the next review could push the price beyond Rs. 430 per litre.

The government is also increasing the Petroleum Development Levy to meet its revenue targets — a move that is adding further burden on consumers who are already finding it difficult to manage their monthly expenses. Rising transport and import costs are making the overall situation even more challenging.

The possibility of another price hike has caused serious concern among car owners, motorcyclists and daily commuters. Many middle-class families say their monthly budgets are already under severe pressure due to high fuel costs, and another increase would make things even harder to manage.

Experts are urging people to adopt fuel-saving habits to cope with the rising prices. Their recommendations include keeping vehicles properly maintained, avoiding unnecessary travel, using public transport wherever possible and considering hybrid or electric vehicles as a long-term solution to reduce fuel expenses.

The government maintains that these measures are necessary to keep the economy stable and fulfill the conditions set by the IMF. However, for the common man on the street, frequent petrol price increases continue to make daily life increasingly difficult and expensive.
