Punjab Government Issues Over 832,000 Kissan Cards to Support Farmers

Punjab has issued more than 832,000 Kissan Cards to farmers across the province, providing direct financial assistance and easier access to agricultural support programmes. The initiative has quickly established itself as one of the largest farmer-focused welfare and financing schemes in the region, aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of farming communities across Punjab.

Under the programme, farmers received financial support worth approximately Rs. 55 billion during the wheat season — helping them purchase essential inputs such as seeds, fertilizers and pesticides without having to rely on expensive informal lenders or middlemen. An additional Rs. 90 billion in assistance has been allocated for the Kharif crop season, ensuring farmers have the resources they need to maintain and expand their cultivation activities.

Officials highlighted that the scheme has achieved an impressive recovery rate of 86 percent — a strong indicator of the responsible financial management and repayment discipline shown by beneficiaries. The programme is specifically designed to break the cycle of dependency on middlemen and private financiers by giving farmers direct access to financing on far more favorable and transparent terms.

Punjab’s leadership believes the Kissan Card initiative is playing a pivotal role in modernizing the agriculture sector, enhancing crop yields and promoting genuine financial inclusion in rural communities that have long been underserved by formal financial institutions.

By providing timely support and improving access to essential agricultural resources, the scheme aims to ensure greater dignity, stability and long-term economic security for Pakistan’s farming community — while contributing meaningfully to the overall growth and sustainability of Punjab’s agricultural economy.
